Welcome to EVW Schools for the 2011-12 school year. We are looking for another
great year from our staff and students and are looking forward to the start
of school on Monday, August 29th. EVW schools are starting school earlier
this year because after passing a building project last May for eight new
elementary classrooms and a new gymnasium, this project will begin its' construction
in April. We expect the elementary classrooms to be ready by the start of
school in 2012-13 while the gymnasium and remodeled stage will be finished
by the end of January 2013. We got some excellent
news on the test results front with two grades five and ten scoring their
pest proficiency levels ever on the Minnesota State wide Science test.
Minnesota Department of Education released their science test results from this past spring for grades five, eight and ten for Minnesota schools last week. While the statewide results were mixed and in many cases flat in comparison to 2010, EVW schools had a good year with their science results. Grade five scored 71.8% proficient while the state average was 46% proficient. This was a fifteen percent improvement for EVW schools over last year and was the best performance EVW schools have ever done on the science tests since they were administered in 2008. Grade eight scored 34.9% on these tests proficient compared to 44% statewide. This was a two percent improvement over 2010 but still is the grade level that needs the most improvement. A great performance by the EVW sophomore class as they scored 68.9% proficient on these tests while the state average was 53.8%. This was a nineteen percent improvement over 2010 was the best score ever by EVW students in the sophomore class on the science tests. EVW schools had an overall average of 58.5% proficient for all three-grade levels, which is ten percent higher than the state average of 48%. last year EVW was at 44 % and state was 48%.EVW improved fifteen points overall in proficiency in all three grade levels over 2010. There are still places for improvement, but EVW is proud of its’ continuing excellence on state tests and commend our staff and students for a wonderful job last spring on the MCA Science tests.Proficiency on these tests means students met and or exceeded state standards in the subject matter. It is the highest academic standard for students to reach. We are hopeful these test scores can be improved and help set a standard for EVW schools to continue to be one of the leaders in Minnesota State testing.
