Awards Nights & Other Activities

By: Larry Peterson

We enter May with many happenings occurring and many events to honor successes for the 2011-12 school year. There are many awards programs, concerts and other activities scheduled. It is always good to end a school year on a positive note and and many of these programs honor our best and brightest in academics, music, drama, and leadership. We encourage the public to attend as we honor these excellent students.

The Senior High Awards Night will be Tuesday May 8th at 8:00pm in EVWHS Gym. At this time, school district will be awarding approximately $30,000 in scholarships from the local area to many deserving seniors to commemorate their commitment to academic and activity excellence. We had thirty-one senior applicants this year for these scholarships. Twenty seniors will also be recognized out of fifty-four graduates in the class of 2012 for attaining honor diploma status. They maintained at least a 3.25 GPA in the toughest courses EVW had to offer and earned at least 8 and one half credits in these courses. The valedictorian of the class of 2012 will be Jennifer Notch and the salutatorian will be Travis Eisenbacher. Various clubs and organizations will give their senior high awards and the National Honor Society will announce their 2012 Teacher-of-the-Year Award. It is always an exciting evening, and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The sixteenth annual Senior Honors Breakfast will be held on Tuesday May 8th at 7:30am in the high school cafeteria.Twenty honors seniors will be highlighted along with thirty-eight seniors who achieved a "B" average or better for four years of high school. There will be music played by the EVW choir and Principal Bruce Kiehn and Superintendent Larry Peterson will be the guest speakers. Staff will serve breakfast to the honorees and achievements will be announced. It is great experience for seniors who have earned the highest academic status for our school district.

The annual Kindergarten Appreciation Night will be held at 7:00pm at Watkins Elementary School on Monday May 7th. Eighty-eight students who are about to complete kindergarten will give a public performance on their musical skills for the year. This is always an exciting night and with one of our largest kindergarten classes, it should be an exciting night.

Congrats to Jennifer Notch, Travis Eisenbacher, Molly Hesse and Alexandra Theis who were honored along with their parents as the top four academic students in the class of 2012 at a Students of Excellence Banquet in St. Cloud last week. There were fifty-six schools in attendance with over two hundred students of excellence honored in Central Minnesota for their academic prowess. This was the twenty-fifth year of this banquet in Central Minnesota.
